Deck Construction in Burien for Safe, Lasting Access

New deck work starts with the structure below the walking surface. We plan the frame, footing layout, ledger connection, guardrails, and stairs as one system.

Customers choose this service when they want a new outdoor area or need a better link between indoor and outdoor spaces. The main decision is whether the project needs a full build, a design change, or a separate repair.

A deck quote should reflect the property, access, framing plan, finish choices, and related construction work. Our design-build process lets you review the scope before construction begins.

  • Confirm the deck location, access points, and intended use.
  • Review the framing layout and support plan.
  • Check the ledger connection and flashing approach.
  • Plan guardrails and stair stringers where needed.
  • Define related design and construction work before requesting a quote.

Service Overview

Deck construction is a building service that creates an outdoor platform with framing, supports, walking surfaces, rails, and stairs.

  • Deck construction differs from deck repair because it plans and builds a new structure instead of correcting one existing defect.
  • Deck construction serves homeowners and businesses in Burien and surrounding areas.

Typical costs and sizing

“Guardrail (guards): We require guardrails if your deck is more than 30 inches above adjacent surfaces, such as the ground or a lower roof.”

What Better Deck Planning Changes

A planned frame gives the walking surface a sound base.

Clear drawings and scope details help you make finish and layout decisions earlier.

A coordinated build keeps design questions connected to construction work.

Guardrails and stairs become part of the access plan, not an afterthought.

Customers get a deck designed around their space, use, and budget.

When this service is the right fit

A homeowner may want a new deck where an older outdoor platform no longer suits the property's access or use. We review the proposed location, building connection, framing plan, and stair path before defining the construction scope.

Why Customers Choose This Deck Build Approach

Review the frame before work starts

Customers can discuss the layout, support plan, and finish choices before construction begins. This service is the wrong fit when you only need a small repair to an existing deck.

Keep design and construction connected

Our design-build approach links drawings, project planning, quotations, and field work. That gives customers one organized path for a new deck.

Match the build to the property

The deck layout must suit the building connection, ground conditions, access route, and intended use. Those details shape the work more than a stock design.

Linda and her team did an excellent job! We would highly recommend them. We hired her for a kitchen remodel and asked for a very tight timeline. She delivered and we absolutely love the result. She was very commutative and available to us. Thank you Design and Build NW!

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Best remodel experience we have ever had. The oversight, careful workmanship and ownership of the project was above expectations. Our design team was amazing. We also had the same person do all the work start to finish and was a total Pro. Could not recommend enough and will be doing any and all projects through them. This place is a gem.

Questions About Planning a New Deck

How is a new deck designed for safety and durability?

Joist spacing, footing depth, ledger flashing, guardrails, and stair stringers shape a safe, durable deck design. The plan must match the deck size, support layout, building connection, and intended use.

Customers should review access points and property conditions before approving the scope. We explain how each structural part fits the planned build.

What does the crew check before planning the frame?

The frame review checks the proposed deck location, building connection, support points, access route, and intended use.

Customers should share photos, rough dimensions, and any concerns about the existing structure. Those details help define whether the project needs a new build or a separate repair.

Which deck parts can change the quote?

The deck layout, footing work, stairs, guardrails, finishes, access, and building connection can change the quote.

  • The frame may need different support points.
  • Stairs can add design and construction work.
  • A difficult building connection can change the ledger plan.

Customers receive a quote after the project scope is discussed.

When is a new deck the right service?

A new deck is the right service when you need a new outdoor platform or a planned replacement.

A repair may fit a limited problem with an existing deck. Customers who want a new layout, new access, or a different use should discuss full construction so the frame and finish plan work together.

Why does ledger flashing matter on a deck?

Ledger flashing helps protect the building connection from water entry.

The ledger joins the deck to the property, so that connection needs careful planning. Customers should raise concerns about leaks, staining, or movement before the quote is set. We include the connection details in the construction discussion.

How should I prepare before requesting a deck quote?

Prepare the deck location, intended use, access points, rough dimensions, and photos of the building connection.

Customers should also note where stairs and guardrails might be needed. A clear starting brief helps the design discussion focus on the property instead of guesswork.

What makes design-build useful for a deck project?

Design-build keeps the deck layout, quote, planning, and construction discussion connected.

Customers can review the structure and finish choices before work starts. This approach fits projects where the deck affects access, building connections, stairs, or related remodeling work.
