A coordinated layout can connect the deck with doors, stairs, railings, and nearby finishes.

Finish selection guidance helps you choose materials that suit the property's look and daily use.

What Deck Construction Covers

Deck construction is a building service that creates an outdoor platform with planned framing, surfaces, access, and safety features.

About

What a new deck project includes

Deck construction starts with the way you want to use the space. A dining area, entry platform, or business access deck can need a different layout, height, and connection plan. We review the available space, access, existing surfaces, and the requested finish. The project can include design coordination, planning, framing, decking, railings, stairs, and related construction work when those items belong in the agreed scope. The main buyer decisions involve size, access, materials, railings, stairs, and finish selection. We explain those choices during planning, then define the scope and terms in writing before work begins.

Process

Steps from deck idea to finished structure

1

Discuss use and site needs

We begin with a consultation about access, layout, intended use, and project requirements. Free consultations are available for deck projects.

2

Plan the deck scope

We coordinate design choices, construction needs, finish materials, stairs, railings, and other items that belong in the project.

3

Set written project terms

We define the agreed scope and terms in writing before work begins, including the construction work and selected finishes.

4

Build and review the work

We complete the planned construction, review the deck details, and keep direct communication open through the remodeling process.

Typical costs and sizing

“Guardrail (guards): We require guardrails if your deck is more than 30 inches above adjacent surfaces, such as the ground or a lower roof.”

What to prepare before deck planning

A few clear decisions help us understand the deck you want and the work the property needs.

  • Mark the doors, stairs, and areas the deck should connect.
  • Note how you plan to use the deck during normal weeks.
  • Collect any property plans or existing project documents you have.
  • List preferred deck finishes, railing styles, and access needs.
  • Write down concerns about movement, soft boards, water, or current damage.

Our Standard

Project Consultation

We use the deck consultation to record homeowner goals, site access, intended use, and construction requirements.

Written Project Terms

We put the deck scope, finish choices, and related construction terms in writing before work begins.

Finish Selection Guidance

We guide requested finish selections by discussing how surface materials fit the deck's use and planned appearance.

Linda and her team did an excellent job! We would highly recommend them. We hired her for a kitchen remodel and asked for a very tight timeline. She delivered and we absolutely love the result. She was very commutative and available to us. Thank you Design and Build NW!

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Best remodel experience we have ever had. The oversight, careful workmanship and ownership of the project was above expectations. Our design team was amazing. We also had the same person do all the work start to finish and was a total Pro. Could not recommend enough and will be doing any and all projects through them. This place is a gem.

Questions about planning and building a deck

Who provides deck construction in Sammamish?

HomeRemodelSammamish.com provides deck construction for residential and commercial properties in Sammamish. We coordinate design planning, construction, finish selection, and written project terms. Our licensed and insured general contractor service covers the work from the first consultation through the planned construction scope. Free consultations are available for customers who want to discuss a deck project.

What changes the cost of a deck project?

Deck size, access, framing needs, stairs, railings, finishes, and site conditions shape the project cost. We review those details during the consultation and explain which choices affect the scope. Then we define the project terms in writing before work begins. A consultation gives you a clearer basis for requesting a project quote.

Can you build a deck around an existing door or layout?

Existing doors and layouts can guide the deck design when the site supports the planned connection. We review access, walking routes, stairs, railings, and nearby finishes during planning. The final scope depends on the property and project requirements. Share photos or property plans during the consultation so we can discuss the layout with useful detail.

What should I ask about deck materials?

Deck materials should match the planned use, appearance, care needs, and project scope. Finish selection guidance helps you compare the surface and related finish choices before construction. We can discuss how the selected materials fit the deck layout and the surrounding property. Written project terms then record the agreed construction scope.

How do you handle a deck that feels unsafe?

A deck that feels unsafe needs an inspection before you decide between repair and replacement. We look at soft boards, movement, railings, stairs, framing, and visible water concerns. Avoid using areas that feel unstable until the condition is reviewed. We then explain the construction work that fits the observed issue and your project goals.

What happens during the first deck consultation?

The first consultation covers your goals, property layout, intended use, access, finish preferences, and project requirements. We use that discussion to shape the early scope and identify the details that need review. You can bring photos, plans, and notes about current problems. Free consultations are available before written project terms are set.

Do commercial deck projects differ from home projects?

Commercial deck projects must fit business use, existing layouts, access needs, and planned work requirements. We discuss customer or staff movement and ways to reduce disruption during construction. Residential projects focus more on household use, exterior access, and personal finish choices. Both project types receive coordinated planning and written scope before work begins.

Key Points About Deck Construction

  • A deck plan should account for framing, access, stairs, railings, and the walking surface.
  • Soft boards and movement deserve a review below the visible surface.
  • Finish choices should match the property's look and planned daily use.
  • A written scope records the construction work and selected project details.
  • Residential and commercial decks need different layout and access discussions.

Scenarios

When Customers Call Us About Deck Construction

1

Soft Boards And Uneven Walking Surface

A deck with soft boards or an uneven walking surface needs more than a surface review. Moisture, movement, or weak framing can sit below the visible damage. We inspect the deck components and define whether the work calls for a replacement plan or focused construction changes. Bring photos and note where the surface feels unsafe before the consultation.

2

New Outdoor Space For A Home

A homeowner may want a deck that connects an exterior door with a useful outdoor area. The layout must account for access, stairs, railings, finish materials, and the way the space will be used. We discuss those choices during a consultation, then set the project scope in writing before construction starts.

3

Commercial Access And Customer Flow

A business may need an outdoor platform that supports staff access, customer movement, or a planned exterior update. The deck layout must fit the existing building and limit disruption during the work. We review the business requirements, site access, and finish choices before defining the construction plan and written terms.
