About

What tile work includes for floors, walls, and wet areas

Our tile work covers layout planning, surface preparation, material selection, setting, grout, and edge details. The right approach depends on the substrate, room use, moisture exposure, and the finish you want. A shower wall needs different planning from a dry kitchen backsplash. Floors also need a layout that respects cabinets, doors, transitions, and visible room lines. We coordinate these details with the wider remodel when plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, or other construction work is involved. Most small firms don't need to force one tile pattern across every room. We recommend choosing the layout after checking the room's shape, fixed features, and the tile's actual size.

What Tile Installation Covers

Tile Installation is a construction service that sets tile over prepared floors, walls, showers, backsplashes, and other surfaces.

  • Tile installation differs from finish-only decorating because it requires surface preparation, layout planning, adhesive placement, grout work, and edge treatment.
  • Local relevance depends on the property's existing layout, substrate, moisture exposure, and the project's residential or commercial use.
Process

How we move from tile selection to finished surface

1

Review the room and substrate

We inspect the existing surface, room edges, moisture exposure, fixtures, and access points to identify preparation needs.

2

Plan the layout and materials

We set the tile direction, pattern, edge details, grout choices, and finish materials around the room's fixed features.

3

Define the written scope

We record the selected work, project terms, finish choices, and related construction needs before work begins.

4

Prepare and install the tile

We prepare the surface, set the tile, form consistent joints, complete edges, and finish the grout according to the planned layout.

5

Review the finished details

We check the visible layout, edges, joints, transitions, and surrounding finishes before the tile work is complete.

What to prepare before tile work begins

A few decisions help us plan the tile layout and connect it with the rest of the project.

  • Choose the room or surface that needs new tile.
  • Collect tile samples, product details, or finish ideas you already like.
  • Note fixtures, cabinets, doors, drains, and thresholds that the layout must meet.
  • List any cracked, loose, stained, or uneven areas you have noticed.
  • Share related remodel plans, including plumbing, electrical, flooring, or cabinet changes.

Our Standard

Project Consultation

We use the consultation to connect your tile goals with room conditions, fixed features, and related project requirements.

Written Project Terms

We define tile areas, preparation, materials, finish details, and related work in writing before construction begins.

Finish Selection Guidance

We guide finish selections by comparing tile, grout, edges, transitions, and the room's planned use when requested.

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Leaving a long overdue review. Linda helped us remodel our bathroom and kitchen last year. We also did some flooring improvements, and some electrical and plumbing work along the way. The pricing was very reasonable, and we appreciated that Linda was always conscious of our budget, when we made adjustments to our plan. The work was delivered very quickly on promised timelines. She had some really good suggestions around the choice of flooring, which we are thankful for (especially looking back after a year). Also appreciate her sense of style.. it helped us make the right choices for countertops, tiles and fixtures. It all looks great, our guests often comment on how beautiful our kitchen looks. Thank you!

After experiencing water damage in our home, we needed to replace all our flooring, some kitchen cabinets, and redo our primary bath. Linda and her team truly saved the day after a disappointing experience with another contractor. She worked closely with us to choose the perfect tiles for our bathroom and find flooring that suited our home. Her contractors did exceptional work, from leveling the floors to installation and cabinet remaking, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Linda answered all our questions along the way, and we cannot speak highly enough of the work she and her team performed!

Questions about tile layouts, scope, and project planning

Who installs tile for Sammamish homes and businesses?

HomeRemodelSammamish.com installs tile for residential and commercial remodels in Sammamish and surrounding areas. We plan floors, shower walls, backsplashes, and other finished surfaces within the wider project scope. Our design-build process connects tile selections with related construction needs, so the written terms identify the work, finishes, and coordination required.

What changes the cost of a tiled shower?

A tiled shower's cost depends on surface condition, shower size, tile choice, layout, edges, fixtures, and related plumbing work. Existing damage or poor substrate conditions can add preparation work. We review the shower area and selected finishes before preparing a quote, so the scope reflects the actual room instead of a generic allowance.

Should I choose large or small tile for a bathroom floor?

Bathroom floor tile should match the room's shape, slope needs, drain placement, and desired grout pattern. Smaller pieces can suit areas with more changes in direction, while larger pieces create fewer joints on broad surfaces. We compare the layout with doors, fixtures, walls, and transitions before finalizing the selection.

How do you handle tile over an uneven surface?

An uneven surface requires inspection and preparation before tile setting begins. We identify high and low areas, check how the floor meets fixed features, and define the needed surface work in the project scope. Tile should not hide a substrate problem, because movement can affect joints, edges, and the finished plane.

Can tile installation include kitchen and bathroom remodeling work?

Yes, tile installation can be coordinated with kitchen and bathroom remodeling work. We connect tile decisions with cabinets, counters, plumbing, electrical items, flooring, and room access when those tasks belong to the project. This helps place the tile layout against the features it must meet, including outlets, drains, corners, and thresholds.

What should I bring to a tile consultation?

Bring room photos, measurements you already have, tile samples, finish ideas, and a list of related changes. The consultation also benefits from cabinet plans, fixture choices, door locations, and notes about loose or cracked tile. We use those details to understand your goals and define project requirements before written terms are prepared.

Key Points About Tile Installation

  • Surface preparation supports the tile, grout, and finished plane.
  • Room fixtures and thresholds shape the tile layout.
  • Shower walls need careful moisture and edge planning.
  • Grout choices affect the finished pattern and upkeep.
  • Written scope connects tile work with related remodeling tasks.

Scenarios

When Customers Call Us About Tile Installation

1

Cracked Tile After Water Damage

Water damage can affect more than the visible tile surface. The substrate, cabinets, flooring, and nearby bath or kitchen finishes may also need review before replacement. We inspect the affected area, separate cosmetic damage from underlying work, and map the replacement into the wider remodel. Bring photos and any repair records to the consultation.

2

New Backsplash Near Cabinets

A backsplash must meet cabinet edges, outlets, counters, and wall corners cleanly. Tile size and grout lines can change how those connections look, so layout planning matters before materials are ordered. We review the fixed features, discuss finish options, and define the backsplash scope with any related cabinet or electrical work.

3

Uneven Floor Before New Tile

An uneven floor can create lippage, cracked grout, or doors that no longer clear the finished surface. New tile should follow a substrate review, especially when flooring meets cabinets, stairs, or other rooms. We check the floor condition, discuss preparation needs, and outline the work required for a level tile layout.
