Deck Construction in Clyde Hill and material decisions

This page helps buyers choose materials for a new deck, with pressure-treated lumber as the main starting point. We also discuss composite decking, cedar boards, PVC decking, and aluminum framing so the choice fits the property's use and the owner's upkeep preferences.

A deck project needs more than a surface choice. The layout, frame, stairs, access, drainage, and connection to the building all affect the work scope. We coordinate design services, project planning, and skilled construction for residential and commercial clients.

The key decision is whether a new deck fits the property and the intended use. If an existing structure has damage that needs correction first, repair or replacement planning may need to come before new construction.

  • Confirm how the deck will be used, including seating, dining, access, or business activity.
  • Compare pressure-treated lumber, composite decking, cedar boards, PVC decking, and aluminum framing.
  • Review the proposed layout, stairs, building connection, and site access.
  • Request a written quote that reflects the chosen materials and project scope.

Process

How we plan and build the deck

1

Review the property and intended use

We discuss how the deck will be used, where it will sit, how people will reach it, and how it relates to the building.

2

Compare surface and framing materials

We compare pressure-treated lumber, composite decking, cedar boards, PVC decking, and aluminum framing against the design and upkeep goals.

3

Set the design and work scope

The agreed plan identifies the layout, construction details, selected materials, project requirements, and quotation basis.

4

Coordinate construction work

Our design-build team organizes the construction work around the approved plan and the property's access needs.

5

Check the completed deck

We review the built work against the agreed scope, surface installation, framing, access, and finish details.

Reasons to use one team for the deck work

One plan for design and construction

Our design-build process connects the layout, material choice, quotation, and construction plan. A separate deck repair is the better fit when an existing structure needs diagnosis before any new work.

Material choices explained plainly

We explain how composite decking, cedar boards, PVC decking, and aluminum framing differ in appearance, upkeep, and use. That gives you a clear basis for the final selection.

Residential and commercial planning

We work with homeowners and businesses, so the plan can account for household use, tenant access, customer access, or an existing commercial layout.

Licensed and insured general contractor

Our credentials support a structured construction process, while BBB accreditation and Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises certification are part of our business profile.

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Best remodel experience we have ever had. The oversight, careful workmanship and ownership of the project was above expectations. Our design team was amazing. We also had the same person do all the work start to finish and was a total Pro. Could not recommend enough and will be doing any and all projects through them. This place is a gem.

Linda and her team did an excellent job! We would highly recommend them. We hired her for a kitchen remodel and asked for a very tight timeline. She delivered and we absolutely love the result. She was very commutative and available to us. Thank you Design and Build NW!

Questions about choosing and building a new deck

Which material works as a practical starting point for a new deck?

Pressure-treated lumber offers a practical starting point for many new deck plans. The final choice also depends on the deck's use, desired upkeep, appearance, framing plan, and access. Composite decking, cedar boards, PVC decking, and aluminum framing each fit different preferences. We compare those options before the quotation reflects the selected scope.

How does the first site review shape the deck plan?

The first site review identifies the deck location, intended use, access, building connection, framing needs, and surface choice. Those findings shape the layout and work scope. We also discuss stairs and related construction details when they affect the plan. A clear review helps the quote match the proposed deck instead of a vague concept.

What should I prepare before requesting a deck quote?

A clear use goal, preferred location, access notes, and material preferences help shape a useful deck quote. Photos or a simple sketch can also show the existing layout and connection point. We then discuss the design, construction scope, and selected materials. The quote can reflect the details you want included.

When is deck repair a better fit than new construction?

Deck repair is the better fit when the existing structure can support the needed use after its damaged parts are assessed. New construction fits a new location, a changed layout, or a deck that no longer suits the property. We review the surface, framing, stairs, and connection before discussing the right work scope.

Why do material choices change the project quote?

Material choices change the quote because surface and framing options require different products, installation details, and finish work. The layout, access, stairs, and building connection also affect the scope. We prepare the quotation after those decisions are clear. That approach gives you a project figure tied to the actual deck plan.

Can a general contractor coordinate deck work with a larger renovation?

Yes, a general contractor can coordinate deck work with a larger renovation when the deck fits the overall project scope. Our design-build process links planning, construction, and related trades under one organized plan. This can help when interior improvements, exterior work, or commercial renovations affect access or scheduling.
